Bangladesh secures historic runner-up spot
Bangladesh Ansar and VDP women's baseball team secured great success in the Malaysia International Women's Baseball Championship-2026 held in Malaysia.
Bangladesh achieved the honour of becoming the runner-up after losing 14-15 runs against the strong Malaysia national women's baseball team in the much-awaited final held on Sunday.
Despite fighting hard to become the champion, Bangladesh Ansar and VDP women's baseball team lost by just one run. However, this loss also brought a message of historical success and new possibilities for Bangladesh.
Historic success in the first international tournament: Various clubs and national teams from four countries - Malaysia, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Pakistan - participated in this international competition that started on August 12, 2026.
Bangladesh is represented by Bangladesh Ansar and VDP women's baseball team. The Bangladesh team made it to the finals with an extraordinary performance after participating in their first major tournament in the international arena.
In the group stage, the Bangladesh team surprised the strong Malaysian national team by 10-9 runs. Later, the team secured the final through continuous success.
Bangladesh also created a fierce competition against Malaysia from start to finish in the final. Although they were ultimately defeated by a margin of 14-15 runs, the Bangladesh women's team gave strong evidence of their capabilities in the international baseball arena.
Under the leadership of manager Zakir Hossain and coach Rony Ahmed, the Bangladesh Ansar and VDP women's baseball team demonstrated extraordinary team coordination, discipline and fighting spirit throughout the tournament.
By participating in an international competition for the first time and becoming the runner-up and being selected as the best pitcher of the tournament, Bangladesh women's baseball has started a new chapter.
On this historic achievement of Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Baseball-Softball Association (BBSA) has extended its warmest greetings and congratulations to all the players, managers, coaches, officials and all concerned of the Bangladesh Ansar and VDP women's baseball team.
BBSA believes that such a first-time success in the international arena will create new inspiration for the development and expansion of women's baseball in Bangladesh and pave the way for greater international success in the future. Despite coming so close to the championship, Bangladesh is the winner today - in experience, confidence and establishing itself on the international baseball stage.
